Epidemiology & Health Economics

The department of Epidemiology & Health Economics is a multidisciplinary department that combines research and education in epidemiology and health economics. Our work spans infectious diseases, cancer, cardiovascular health, methodological innovation, and health economic evaluation.

We are home to seven teams: six research teams and one education team. We are united by a shared focus on developing and applying rigorous methods to improve health and healthcare.

Our methodological strengths include mathematical and prediction modelling, target trial emulation, evidence synthesis, early impact analyses, and data science. We are also committed to improving the quality and transparency of epidemiological research through reporting guidelines, risk of bias tools, trial registration, and meta-epidemiological research.

The department is led by prof. dr. Lotty Hooft and supported by Karlijn Hofstraat, policy officer of the department.
