Full working title: Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA, aged 15-39 years) cancer epidemiology in the Netherlands since 1989: Estimating diagnostic delay by comparing stage distribution trends between different age populations over time
This research aims to investigate diagnostic delays before receiving a first primary cancer diagnosis among AYAs compared with younger and older patient populations with similar diseases.
The work done during this research internship involves the standard steps in a research project, i.e., conducting a literature research, writing of a protocol including an analysis plan and time schedule, data preparation, analysis and interpretation, and writing a scientific article.
Depending on the duration of the internship, the results of the analyses will be submitted for publication as scientific article in an international peer-reviewed scientific journal.
Due to the consisting Corona epidemic, the intern will mostly work from home. As such, weekly meetings will be held digitally. Monthly meetings can be organized at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam if this is preferred by the intern.
Entry requirements
The student should have followed courses in statistics and epidemiology. Experience with a statistical program is needed.
